I was born in Serowe, a village in the Central of Botswana in Africa in March 1971. I have been a resident of Atlanta, Georgia, USA for the past 20 years.
I am a visual story-teller with a passion for art, food, family, friendship and recycling. My artistic media include collage, pastel, pencil, ink and acrylic paintings, printing, multimedia and photography. When I create art it is a journey of discovery, feeling, fantasy, memory and appreciation for God's creation at large. My artistic work represents in part the work and history of my youth as a native of Botswana in Southern Africa. While Botswana is mainly known as the number one producer of diamonds in the world, It is also rich in diversity of culture and artistic tradition. When I was a young lad, I was inspired by my older brother Sejakgomo "Rantoka" Sejakgomo and we used to draw on the ground because we did not have any art supplies. I traveled and learned art from my South American and European teachers, from the peoples of my country, and the colors of the landscapes that surrounded me. As a result, African culture and customs have influenced my work significantly. They shape the way I use color, pattern, texture, and symbols. Similarly, they are visible in the way I express myself in my paintings and collages. Some of my art is inspired by pablo picasso who had borrowed heavily from the african stylized masks to come up with what he called cubism. My recent collages explore the richness and diversity of the world around us; from the news-makers of our times to the unknown hard working ordinary folks doing what they know best . My creations invite the viewer to savor their own personality as they view the colors and textures of the world with a fresh perspective |
